About the artist

Bert van der Meer

Realistic portraits, landscapes, and still life paintings is what defines Bert's art.

Bert van der Meer (Surhuisterveen, 1980) has been a draftsman from an early age, but he has been actively painting still lifes and portraits in oil since 2003. He is fascinated by archaeological finds and objects that are ravaged bij time and the stories they tell, and he often includes these objects into his still lifes. These are often traditional in composition, with fruit and vegetables in muted coulours and convey a sense of  life in times past.

His portraits reflect moments of everyday life. They seem contemplative and calm but at the same time often impart a sense of movement.

Bert is mostly self-taught and has adopted a composite style, merging different styles resulting in an overal natural and harmonious way of representing the world. In the manner of artists from the  19th century, which are a source of inspiration.
